Welcome to the COA
The Ontario Provincial Police Commissioned Officers’ Association was founded in 1974 to promote esprit de corps and otherwise represent the OPP’s senior officers. The Association has matured into an organization that provides an active communications and labour relations link between the Commisssioned Officers and the Executive of the OPP.
Our Mission
The COA is a progressive leadership association committed to representing its membership through influence and positive change.
COA Membership
Every officer in the OPP of the rank of Inspector, Superintendent, and Chief Superintendent is eligible to be a full member of the COA. In addition, all officers who retired in one of those or similar ranks or retired from the rank of Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner are eligible as “Life Members.” Beyond the Regular and Life Members, a number of worthy individuals have been elected as “Honorary Members” of the COA.
Ontario Provincial Police Veterans’ Association (OPPVA)
The Ontario Provincial Police Veterans’ Association (OPPVA) is dedicated to the well-being of current, former, and retired OPP employees and their families, as well as those from other law enforcement agencies who dedicated their lives to serving and protecting others.
COA Purpose & Objectives
The OPP Commissioned Officers’ Association is a not-for-profit organization created for the following purposes:
- Promoting the improvement of members’ conditions of employment or work.
- Negotiating with the Crown in Right of Ontario as the employer and pursuing issues of compensation, benefits, and working conditions of its members within a negotiated framework.
- Improving communications with various levels of management and suggesting ways and means to maintain a high esprit de corp.
- Fostering social ability and promoting the general welfare and good fellowship of its members and increasing the public image of the profession.
Esprit de Corps
The COA hosts or supports many social events that will promote the esprit de corps of its membership. A number of events are held annually. Each Spring, the COA hosts its “President’s Ball”, a gala occasion that has become a marquee event for the members who make it a point to attend. The COA also hosts the Annual OPP Commissioned Officers’ Mess Dinner, another memorable event that includes a ceremony marking the commissioning of new CO’s.
Supporting Our Communities
The COA supports a number of charities annually as determined by the membership. Beneficiaries of the COA’s generosity include the OPP Veteran’s Association, OPP Youth Foundation, OPP Friends of the Museum, United Way, Law Enforcement Torch Run and many other worthwhile organizations throughout the Province.
